Darrel Gene McClatchey, 85, a resident of Blue Springs, MO passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 2, 2019. He was born December 20, 1933 in York, NE to Alfred and Marietta (Hagerman) McClatchey.
Darrel served his country in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Barbara Updike on June 10, 1955 in Mound City, MO. Darrel spent 25 years working for the Department of Health (OSHA) as a compliance officer and retired in 1998. He enjoyed staying busy, working on antique cars and yard work.
Survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara McClatchey of the home; sons, Mark McClatchey of Wichita, KS, Greg McClatchey of Denver, CO, Chris McClatchey of Blue Springs, MO; 4 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister in-law, Dorothy McClatchey of Des Moines, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Arlene Watson; brothers, Verl and Gale McClatchey.
Darrel will be cremated per his wishes. A gathering to celebrate Darrel’s life is currently pending. Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs have been entrusted with the arrangements. Memories of Darrel and words of comfort for his family may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com.

Darrel and I worked together at OSHA for many years. I have many fond memories of our acquaintance. My condolences to hif family.
I worked with Darrel many years in the Wichita Area Office before he transferred to Kansas City. He was very helpful to Bonnie and I getting started in our new home when we moved to Wichita in 1976. Bonnie and I grew to become good friends with he and Barb and their kids.
I’ve been very fortunate to have known Darrell . One of the kindest guys a real gentleman and someone
who would be the first one to volunteer to help if you were in need .
