Daniel R. Wessling, Jr., 94, formerly of Des Moines, IA passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Pleasant Valley Manor, Liberty, MO. He was born January 18, 1919 in Lytton, IA to Daniel R. and Cora E. (Thompson) Wessling, Sr. Daniel graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Des Moines. At the University of Pennsylvania he received a BS degree in Economics, participated in crew, and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
Dan was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, where he served during World War II in Europe. His career was dedicated to Wessling Services which he and his father founded. They printed and sold advertising to banks all across the United States. He was a longtime devoted member of Plymouth Congregational Church in Des Moines.
On October 10, 1948 he married Jane Pettengill in Greenfield, MA. She preceded him in death. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lois Henrikson. Survivors include two sons, David Bruce Wessling (Liz) of Aurora, CO and Mark Raymond Wessling (Nan) of Oconomowoc, WI; his daughter, Nancy Eileen Quitmeier (Bill) of Weatherby Lake, MO; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one on the way.
A memorial service celebrating Daniel’s life will be held later next spring at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Des Moines. His cremated remains will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Junction Township Cemetery, Grand Junction, IA. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Plymouth Congregational Church, 4126 Ingersoll Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50312-2792.
