Mr. Dan W. Vanover, 69, a Northland resident and member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish passed away at 9:25 a.m. Sunday, March 12, 2023, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born July 30, 1953 in Topeka, KS to E.L. “Van” and Claire (Meyer) Vanover. They preceded him in death.
Dan graduated from Topeka West High School and then served in the United States Navy. He had a strong work ethic which resulted in a long and rewarding career in sales for General Motors. He always placed the needs of his clients first and he became well respected within his profession.
He married Dongran Shinn on September 16, 2000 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Topeka. They had a beautiful marriage and a true love for one another. In addition to Dongran, survivors include a step-son, Brian Martin of Kansas City, MO; and a sister, Linda Barber and husband, Rick of Raytown, MO; a niece Amy Loescher and husband, Ron; nephew Jeff Smelser and wife, Shirley, and nephew, Todd Hawkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Denver Vanover; and a sister, Brenda Vanover.
A traditional Requiem Mass will be celebrated 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2023, at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church with Fr. Garrett King presiding. Prior to the Mass, visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the Rosary will be prayed at 12:00 p.m. A private Committal Service and urn placement will take place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church Building Fund. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville.
