Charlotte Lucille Mathews McClure, 93, from Platte Woods, MO passed away September 6, 2026 at her Wexford Senior Living Home. She was born October 16, 1932 in Mt. Pleasant, IA to Perry and Luella Nickolaus Mathews.
Charlotte graduated from Mt Pleasant High School in 1950. Received a degree in Home Economics at Iowa State Teachers College. She taught Home Economics in Clinton, IA.
In 1957 joined the Women’s Army Corp (WAC). Charlotte served in the WAC for 8 years, honorably discharged with a rank of Captain.
Charlotte met her late husband Marshall McClure in March 1959 at Ft. Meade, MD. Charlotte married Marshall McClure on 10/16/1965 which also was Charlotte’s 33rd birthday!
Marshall’s career took them to Chicago, IL, then to San Francisco, CA and in 1979 they moved to Platte Woods, MO where she continued teaching. Charlotte began a career of volunteer work, primarily church related. Charlotte served on church vestry for 7 years and served on Alter Guild including the church wedding coordinator. Charlotte also did volunteer work for the Episcopal Diocese of West Missouri. Charlotte twice received the Bishop’s Shield. Since 2005 Charlotte has done volunteer work at the St Luke’s Hospital information desk. She also called Bingo at an assisted living facility. Charlotte volunteered at the church related Northland Infant Clothing Center. Charlotte has enjoyed church bible study groups, breakfast groups and good long walks, until the last two months with lung cancer.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband and best friend of 49 years, Marshall D. McClure; her parents Perry and Luella Mathews; her sisters Margaret Leu, Shirley Madden, Ruth Bridges and Phyllis Mallams.
Charlotte is survived by her nephews John Leu, Ken Madden, Dan Bridges, Rick Mallams, John Mallams; her nieces Linda Holtschlag, Laurie Anderson, Kathy Roth, Ilene Bridges; her step-nieces Nancy Hammer, and Laura McClure; her step-son Mark McClure; her friend and caretaker niece-in-law Prudy Mallams.
On Thursday October 15, 2026 at 1:00pm we will have a Celebration of Char’s life at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer (Route 9, KC). Refreshments and finger food will be provided. Charlotte’s ashes will be interred at Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, IA at a later date. Memories of Charlotte and condolences to the family may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com
