Charles J. (CJ) Newcomer peacefully passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022, just one week after this 86th birthday. He was born on January 21, 1936 in Stanberry, Mo, to Lester and Helen (Kern) Newcomer.
He graduated from Stanberry High School where he participated and excelled in every sport. Soon after graduation he began his career in construction in Kansas City.
He married Joyce Daniel, also of Stanberry, on June 21, 1956. Shortly after their wedding CJ, was drafted and spent two years in the US Army, proud to serve his country.
After returning to Kansas City he continued his career in construction that lasted into his 60s. He came out of retirement to rehab and build houses with his son, Brad.
With Joyce, CJ built a loving and Christian home for their three children. Family was CJ’s great pride and joy. He was active and supporting in his children’s school and extracurricular activities. Later he took the same pride in his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s passions and activities. CJ and Joyce enjoyed traveling but found their greatest joy at home in the house they built together.
He is survived by his family that loves him very much: his wife, Joyce; three children: Vickie (Roger) Brokke, Topeka; Russell (Marion) Newcomer, Parkville; Bradley (Christie) Newcomer, Liberty; and, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers LeRoy Newcomer and Gerald Newcomer.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at St. Therese Catholic Church. Fr. Randy Sly presiding. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m., prior to Mass. The Committal service and urn placement will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. Memorial contributions in CJ’s memory and honor can be made to St. Therese Catholic Church and may be left in care of the funeral chapel.
