Charles Walter Sumpter, 80, a resident of Blue Springs, MO passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021 at his home. He was born February 5, 1941 to Walter and Wilma (Kendall) Sumpter in Madison, MO.
Charles served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps. He graduated from Moberly High School and also attended Junior College there. Charles was united in marriage to Karen Stuver and from that union three children were born James, Scott, and Kristi. He retired from Bendix Allied Signal as a supervisor. Charles was a member of the American Legion Post #499 and Elk’s Lodge #2509 both in Blue Springs. He enjoyed fishing, turkey hunting, and playing poker.
Survived by his children, James Sumpter and wife Sena of Blue Springs, MO, Scott W. Sumpter and wife Claudia of Lee’s Summit, MO, Kristi Fant and husband Thomas of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Josh, Alex, Larissa, Elaiyna, Ashley; great-grandchildren; former wife, Karen Sumpter. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Wilma Sumpter; brothers, Duane Sumpter, Billy Sumpter.
Charles will be cremated per his wishes. A committal service with full military honors will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 13, 2021 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.
