A Memorial service celebrating Catherine’s life will commence at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Meyers Northland Chapel 401 Main Street Parkville, MO 64152.
Catherine R. Quirarte (nee Baldasso), 92, of Overland Park, Kansas (formerly of Parkville, MO) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, surrounded in love with her family. Catherine was born February 6, 1931 to Angelo and Cecilia (Visentin) Baldasso in Kansas City, MO.
Catherine enjoyed traveling; she flew to Italy with Dave and Cindy and her sister Libby. She also traveled to Arizona to visit with Dave, Cindy, Becky and Joel. During this visit, as a joke, Dave had Catherine and her sister’s Mary and Libby arrested for stealing an orange.
Catherine enjoyed making tamales at the Guadalupe Center and of course making her famous enchiladas.
She was very active as a member of the Silver Sneakers Program, walking at River Front Park or the Mall, participating in Chair Yoga classes, and working in her yard. Catherine earned the “Yard of the Month” award a couple of times in her neighborhood, she was very proud of this receiving this award.
Catherine had many friends and great neighbors when living in Parkville. She continued to make friends after her move to Glenwood Village in Overland Park. One friend in particular was, Geri Miller. These two women were inseparable going to activities, playing bingo, getting their hair done or just sitting out on the patio visiting. If one didn’t want to go somewhere, no one went.
A very Special Thanks to Geri Miller from our family for all the support and help she gave to our Mom!
Catherine is survived by her children: Barbara “Anita” Owen; Mary Tranthram (Jimmy); David Quirarte, Jr (Cindy); Becky Youngblood (Joel); Robert M. Quirarte; Nancy J. Garcia; Michael A. Quirarte; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother Louis R. Baldasso. She was preceded in death by her husband David C. Quirarte; a daughter Gloria J. Thurlo; three sisters: Emma A. Compean; Mary L. Arreguin and Elizabeth Hernandez.

My condolences to the whole family. My Grandma will be greatly missed!! I credit her for the strong hard-working women in our family. I asked her multiple times over the years “how she does it” or “how she raised all those kids” and she would always smile and chuckle. I don’t think she would have it any other way. I will miss her go-with-the-flow attitude, the goodies from her garden, and her cooking. Love you Grandma!
John and I send our heartfelt condolences to your family. Just hearing all the wonderful stories shared by Dave & Cindy makes us appreciate all the more what an amazing woman she was.
Our Golden Girl got her angel wings this morning. Grandma/NONNA we will miss you. I will miss our Menudo Sundays, trick or treating in your neighborhood every year, every Easter and Christmas…we spent a lot of time with our grandmother when we were little. We used to tease her that she was like Sophia off the Golden Girls🤣🤣 She was definitely spunky like her, she did not play. I’ll miss hearing, “Oh Gina” anytime I tried to get her to try something new or explain a new slang to her🤣 Rest well NONNA you lived a good life❤️ 93 years
Mrs. Q was one of the kindest, coolest ladies in my neighborhood growing up and she carried that all the way to her resting place. all the sons and daughters you did a great job. My mother, Ruth, and Mrs. Q could carry on a conversation back in the day until eventually someone had to go home. They were good friends love the Quirarte family.
Dear Catherine, we are so glad to have had the chance to meet you, an unexepectid surprise to see you here in Italy that time with Dave, Cindy and Elizabeth! We can keep in our hearts a beautiful memory of you. So much force in a so thin person, you looked like a lot to your cousin Anna, you were a Baldasso at all for sure! Thanks for your presence, have a nice journey to the house of the Lord. Your Italian cousins on behalf of Anna, also.
I am sorry for your loss Dave and Cindy. What a wonderful tribute to her!
Keeping my family in prayers
Tia Katie was a remarkable woman with the kindest heart. She’d be the Guadalupe Center when I was in grade school (our lady of Guadalupe) with my Tia Mary playing bingo or doing arts and crafts and us kids would go to the luncheons they’d have for thanksgiving and Christmas and she’d always sneak me extra treats lol.
I’ll miss her sassiness and long conversations. I know my grandpa Louie is going to miss his sister something fierce!
With all of my love
Great Niece and Nephew Michael and Great-Great Nephew Louie
So sorry for your loss from the Trejo Family
Dear David, Cindy, Jason & all the family,
Katie was a special person. She was kind and good-hearted. She was a special friend to my mother Elda, and was always so nice to me and my children when we were visiting in Kansas City. We enjoyed her company here in Italy, too on your trip with Katie and Libbie. She will always remain in our hearts and prayers. Love, Diane Gassman – Trinca
David and Family,
Katie was always upbeat. We enjoyed her visits when we worked on her Honda. We would reminisce about old times. Customers would ask
Katie how she knew Pete. Katie would say “I changed Jr’s diapers when he was a baby”.
We will miss Katie and will keep her in our prayers as always.
Our Love, Pete & Grace Diaz

David,
Sorry to hear about your mother. It sounds like she lived a full and happy life and I know from the multitude of times you came back to KC, that you loved her were very appreciative of her.
Current times have caused most of us to come to grips with our “privileges” and nothing can compare to the privilege of having great parents. Parents that loved us, taught us the value of hard work, honesty, education and family. You are a most privileged person to have such a great mother.
Dear Anita, Mary, Davy, Becky, Bob, Nancy, Mike & entire Quirarte Family,
I’m so sorry to hear Aunt Katie is no longer with us. My condolences to the entire Quirarte Family. No words can truly express my deep sorry, love & thoughts for Aunt and entire Family. I thank Our Lord Jesus your Mom went to Heaven Peacefully in her sleep & no longer in pain.
Aunt Katie was A Great Lady, Blessed & Loved by all. I do not know how Aunt did it with 8 Lively Children.
I will always have fond memories of Aunt in Armourdale, Parkville, Dodger Stadium, Scottsdale, Az & visits with my mom.
Aunt Katie will truly be missed, in my heart & lots of hugs.
Love you Aunt, Your Niece Joann
