Calvin “Carey” Cizek, 78, a resident of Overland Park, KS, a forty-six-year former resident of Blue Springs, MO., passed away peacefully Friday, June 23, 2023. He was born January 10, 1945 to Joseph and Anne Marie (Dvorak) Cizek in Sidney, Nebraska. On July 1, 1967, Carey married Linda Kay Cundall in Omaha, Nebraska.
Carey is survived by his two Children: Angela Cizek of Grain Valley, Missouri and Joseph Cizek and his wife Meghan of Overland Park, Kansas. Carey is also survived by his four grandchildren: Sidney Shields of Memphis, Tennessee, Madison Shields of Grain Valley, Missouri, Charlie Cizek of Overland Park, Kansas and Julianne Cizek of Overland Park, Kansas. Carey was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Linda Cizek, his brother, Richard Cizek and his sister, Betty Grothe.
Carey attended St. Pats High School in Sidney, Nebraska. He was of the Catholic Faith. He proudly served his country from 1963 to 1966 in the United States Army. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. After the military, Carey went to work for Consolidated Freightways where he was a mechanic. He then became a member of the Kansas City Teamsters Union Local #41.
Carey had a very green thumb. He was an avid gardener. He loved playing Bingo and any card game that allowed him to engage with friends. He later became a big fan of board games as his grandchildren got old enough to play them with him. Carey never knew a stranger, he would talk with anyone, as long as the conversation was interesting. He was a friend to everyone and a stranger to no one. He was also a man with a great sense of humor, some would even consider him a jokester.
Above all, Carey was a devoted family man. When his wife Linda became sick, Carey was right there by her side, tending to her every need for over 20 years, until she preceded him in death in 2019. Every chance that Carey got, he would attend any and every event of his grandchildren that he could. Carey loved his family very dearly. He would always tell the family that having them all together under his roof were some of his favorite moments in life.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday July 6, 2023 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St. Blue Springs, MO. Memories of Carey and words of comfort for his family may be shared at meyersfuneralchapel.com
