Anne E. “Annie” Stenger, 88, a Northland resident of Kansas City, MO passed away Friday, August 26, 2022 with family at her side. She was born February 7, 1934 in Totteridge, England to Walter William “Bill” and Lilian (Booth) Mulvey.
She graduated high school in Totteridge and earned her nursing degree from the University of England at Wales. She spent much of her career as a Registered Nurse for the University College in London and later for the British Hospital for Mothers and Babies. Anne was a long-time midwife in several different districts in London.
She married Paul Joseph Stenger, Jr. on March 8, 1975 in Topeka, KS. Paul was a career veteran of the United States Navy. The couple met in London where Paul was assigned to the US Embassy. When he was sent to Stuttgart, Germany Anne began working as a Registered Nurse in the US military hospital. She was fluent in both French and German. Anne officially became a US Citizen on July 22, 1983. The couple returned to the US, and lived in Arlington, VA, where Paul worked for the Department of Defense and Anne worked as a Certified Dental Surgical Assistant. They made Arlington their home until Paul’s death when Anne moved to Kansas City to be closer to Paul’s family.
A woman of faith, Anne was a member of St. John’s Episcopal church in Arlington and Church of the Redeemer in Kansas City. She enjoyed singing in the choir at both.
Anne & Paul were caring friends to many in England, Arlington and Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Mulvey. Surviving family in England are her sister, Jane “Jenny” Gerard (Bede) and nephew, Julian Young, (Alice). Anne is loved and will be greatly missed by the extended Stenger family and many others.
Urn placement for both Anne and Paul will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
