Angela Leigh Wasson-Hunt, 65, of Kansas City, MO passed away peacefully Monday, January 31, 2022 at NorthCare Hospice House with her loving family by her side. She was born February 27, 1956, in Wichita Falls, TX to Field and Mary Ann (Clinton) Wasson, Sr.
Soon thereafter, the family moved to Siloam Springs, AR, where her father joined his family’s banking business. The Wasson family was prominently known throughout the Northwest Arkansas banking and finance industry through their ownership of the Bratt-Wasson Bank/First National Bank of Siloam Springs (later sold to Arvest Bank).
Angela was a graduate of Stephens College in Columbia, MO, which included a year of study at Cambridge University, Cambridge, England.
Angela and her brothers continued the family’s legacy in banking for a third generation. In October 2021, Angela retired from Citizens Bank & Trust as a Senior Vice President. This completed a 40-year career in commercial real estate lending.
In addition to her professional career, Angela was dedicated to serving Kansas City. She was appointed to and held leadership positions on numerous community organizations: Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners; Northland Community Foundation; Clay County Economic Development Council; Clay-Platte Development Corporation; Clay County Industrial Development Authority; Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce; and The Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award Foundation.
She enjoyed family Christmas parties at the White House during President Clinton’s terms in office. She also cherished time spent at her parents’ condominium on Sanibel Island, FL.
Family and friends deeply mourn Angela’s passing while sharing fond memories of a loving, humorous, and glamorous woman. She had impeccable style and loved fashion accessories. Her wrists were adorned with bracelets, she had a purse for each occasion, and she wore cowboy boots year-round. Angela was passionate about those she loved, gave generously to causes she supported, and loved a good pedicure with friends. She will be remembered dearly, especially for her fabulous laugh.
She married Stuart Hunt on October 24, 1992. They were blessed with a wonderful 29-year marriage. In addition to Stuart, survivors include two children: Lindsey Hunt Plaster (Andrew) of Kansas City, MO and Taylor Hunt of Tacoma, WA; a grandson, Alex; a brother, Karl Wasson (Ann) of Minneapolis, MN; a sister-in-law, Nancy Wasson, of Little Rock, AR; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Field Wasson, Jr.
A memorial Mass will be held this spring at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Catholic Church to celebrate and honor Angela’s life. Details will be forthcoming.
