LaVerna Jean Crim, 88, of Kansas City, MO passed away August 15, 2017 at her home. She was born July 14, 1929 in Grain Valley, MO to Charlie David and Danese (O’Connell) Simpson.
LaVerna graduated from William Chrisman High School and was very devoted to her husband and children. In her early years, she worked as a secretary for the Kansas City Board of Trade and more importantly, spent the majority of her working years as a pastor’s wife. She was a member of the Sterling Acres Baptist Church and sang in the choir. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, photography and exploring nature. Basil Gene Miller, 70, of Blue Springs, MO passed away August 14, 2017 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Blue Springs. He was born December 30, 1946 in Park Falls, WI to Vincent and Iva (Appelbee) Miller.
Basil graduated from Winter High School in Winter, WI and served in the United States Army as a med-tech for the Wisconsin Army Arngus. He spent the majority of his working career as a printing pressman for the W.A. Krueger Company in Wisconsin and later the Eagle Lithographing Company in Kansas City, MO. Over the span of his career, Basil printed numerous books as well as publications including Newsweek and TIME magazine. Amy “AJ” Slater, 47, a resident of Blue Springs, MO passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, August 9, 2017. Amy was born October 14, 1969 to Robert and CeVene (Neill) Slater in Du Quion, IL.
As an undergraduate, Amy attended Southern Illinois University of Carbondale. Education was extremely important; earning three Master’s Degrees in Counseling, Sociology, and Criminal Justice. Amy served as the coordinator of Campus Life and Leadership from 2005 to 2017 at MCC Blue River. Amy was an advocate of the LGBTQ community.
Amy and Tasha were united as partners on September 21, 2001 in Springfield, IL. Amy enjoyed helping other people, spending time outdoors, but spending time with family meant the world to Amy. Especially spending time with their son, Jayden.
