Betty R. Smith, age 93, died April 12, 2018 in North Kansas City, Mo. She was born February 9, 1925 in Keytesville, Mo., the oldest daughter and fourth child of the ten children born to Paul W. and Olga Crawford Smith. She graduated from Keytesville High School and her first job was at the Bank of Keytesville where she worked for two years. Betty then spent the rest of her career as cashier for the branch office of Kansas City Power & Light Company in Brunswick, MO until she retired after 44 years. She moved to Lee’s Summit, Mo after retirement and then to Kansas City North in 2015.
Betty traveled extensively throughout the United States and visited four other continents. One trip after her retirement included a hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti in Africa. She was very active in volunteer work when she lived at John Knox Village. She was a lifelong United Methodist. Betty is best described as pragmatic, smart, generous, kind, good natured and even adventurous.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Harold, Wayne, Benton and Paul and two sisters, Dorothy Taylor and Jeanette Burrus. She is survived by her brother, Kenneth (Pat) of Jerome, ID and two sisters, Kathryn Smith of Kansas City and Edna Smith of Springfield as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Chariton County with inurnment in Asbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation to your favorite charity in Betty’s memory is suggested. On line condolences may be left at Meyersfuneralchapel.com.
