Athal “Ben” W. Shrout, 95, a life-long resident of Blue Springs, MO passed away peacefully Saturday, December 30, 2017. He was born August 17, 1922 to J.D. and Marie (Stayton) Shrout in Blue Springs, MO.
Ben was an owner/operator, hauling heavy equipment for two generations of the White Tractor Parts family business. Since he was eight years old Ben wanted to be a professional trucker and he logged over 3 million safe driving miles in the job that he loved. He was a member of the American Truck Historical Society. Ben was a devout believer and a third generation life-long member of the First Christian Church of Blue Springs, which honored him as Emeritus Elder.
Travel to Alaska was a joy that commenced for Ben with the first family trip in 1965, repeated numerous times over the years with his dearly beloved Fran, and culminated with a weeklong cruise just this past August. The highlight of his last trip was a seaplane excursion touching down alongside a glacial waterfall as it plunged into the rocky mountain fjord.
Long before it was a trendy destination Ben enjoyed Cozumel, and the Yucatan peninsula. Travel to Central America, deep sea fishing, truck shows, classic truck restoration, computer spider solitaire, church and family made Ben a well-rounded man.
