Thomas Gerald Talley, a resident of Blue Springs, MO passed from this life on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the age of 83. Prior to his passing he was provided with loving care by his only child Sherry (Talley) Choplin, her Companion Don Hughes, and his grandson-in-law and granddaughter, Shawn and Stephanie (Choplin) Bush. Good Shepherd Hospice of Independence, MO, provided impeccable and compassionate care so that his wish to die at home was honored. His death was very peaceful and his long time canine friend (Button) was also by his side.
Tim was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sarah (Scarborough) Talley in August 2013, parents Weller and Minnie (Tudor) Talley, brothers Darrell (who died in childhood), Robert (Bob), William (Gib), Donald (Don), Alfred (Al) and his sister Martha Ruth (Sis) Davis.
Tim graduated from Raytown High School and worked at several gas stations, a metal foundry and Adams Dairy in Blue Springs before starting at the General Motors Plant in Fairfax, KS. He worked there for 33 years until his retirement in 1996 and was proud to have been a member of UAW Local 31.
Tim moved to Blue Springs when he and Sarah were married and they built their house together on property they purchased from her father. They took great pride in the appearance of the home they made together and enjoyed hosting many family reunions and Christmas parties throughout the years. They also enjoyed traveling, gardening, canning, and going to the Lake of the Ozarks with friends.
Tim was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs and was baptized in January 1959. He proudly served on the Trustees Committee, was an usher, and participated in many of the Christmas and Easter Pageants over the years. Tim was a Lifetime Member of the Blue Springs Historical Society. He also served as a Board Member on the Blue Springs Cemetery Board and enjoyed delivering meals for O.A.T.S. for five years.
Tim was a jokester who never met a stranger and always had a quick smile and a story to share. In his later years he enjoyed listening to music, reading the newspaper, watching Westerns, mysteries, wrestling, game shows and nature programs on T.V. and just sitting outside enjoying nature and watching the school busses go by.
Tim was very proud of his daughter, his granddaughter’s family and especially great-grandsons Shane, Scott and Samuel Bush. The family is requesting no flowers in order to enhance Tim’s wish to provide a medical and education fund for the boys. Memorial contributions may also be made to the Blue Springs Historical Society.
The family will receive friends from 10-11:30 a.m., Friday, November 10, 2017 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St., Blue Springs, MO.
