Roy Ray Penderson, 89, a resident of Blue Springs, MO passed away peacefully at Shangri-La Rehab and Living-Center on Tuesday, October 3, 2017. He was born April 29, 1928 in Bronson, KS to Spurgeon and Dolly (Thomas) Duncan.
Roy was united in marriage to Aletha Gooch on May 7, 1948. From this union two daughters Patti and Linda were born. After the passing of Aletha in December of 1977 Roy would marry Dorothy “Liz” Sheeley on July 7, 1980 in Miami, OK to whom he had shared 37 wonderful years.
Roy was a charismatic individual who left an enduring presence upon all his friends, neighbors and family. He was a member of the Elk’s Lodge #2509 in Blue Springs and had prosperous careers in the oil pipeline industry as well as more than 31 years employed with the Ford Motor Company, before retiring in 1987. Roy was an avid Chiefs and Royals fan, who also enjoyed NASCAR and sprint car races. He had a special affinity for all types of classic cars and had even given his beloved daughters each one. Roy traveled throughout the United States for vacations and engaged in many entertaining pastimes.
Roy will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. His celebration of life ceremony will most assuredly be filled with many memorable stories of Roy’s many adventures in his life’s journey.
Survivors include wife, Dorothy Penderson of Blue Springs, MO; daughters, Patti Leap (Mark) of Grain Valley, MO, Linda Wilson (Dave) of Lone Jack, MO; step-children, Debbie Milburn (Kenny), Jeff Groves (Tammy); grandchildren, Gabe Leap, Wes Leap; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Leap, Cooper Leap, Eli Leap; step-grandchildren, Jereme Adkins, John Adkins, Nick Adkins, Shaylynn Groves. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Altha Penderson; parents, Spurgeon and Dolly Duncan; brother, Bud Penderson; sister, Bea Fiala; step-granddaughter, Dana Adkins.
The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main St, Blue Springs, MO. Funeral service will start at 3:00 p.m., at the chapel. Burial will follow at the Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Wayside Waifs.
