Thomas “Tommy” Lee Herbert, 67, a resident of Blue Springs, MO passed away peacefully Sunday, August 6, 2017. He was born August 28, 1949 in Jonesboro, AR to Paul and Bessie (Williams) Herbert.
He served his country as a radio operator in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After returning to the states Tommy married the love of his life Vicki Cellier on May 20, 1971 in Kansas City, MO. He was self-employed, owning a Lawn Service company in Memphis, TN before moving to Blue Springs. Tommy was Baptist by faith and was a member of the Elks Lodge #2509 in Blue Springs, MO. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include, wife, Vicki Herbert of Blue Springs, MO; daughters, Kimberley Etheridge (Daniel) of Atoka, TN, Karyn Bridges (Joseph) of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Jamie White (Jeremy) of Collierville, TN; mother, Bessie Herbert of Lee’s Summit, MO; brother, Steve Herbert (Dinie) of Holly Ranch, TX; sister, Martha Smith of South Carolina; grandchildren, Jose Alvarado, Jackson Bridges, McLaine Bridges, Silas Bridges, Mason White, Owen White, Blake Etheridge, Cody Etheridge, Tyler Etheridge; great-grandchildren, Kylie Etheridge, Daniel Etheridge, Blakley Etheridge, Addie-Mae Etheridge, Braelynn Etheridge. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Herbert; brothers, Stanley Herbert, John Herbert.
A committal service with military honors will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2017 at Leavenworth National, 150 Muncie Rd, Leavenworth, KS. A celebration of Tommy’s life will be held from 5-9:00 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2017 at the VFW Hall, 329 S.E. Douglas St, Lee’s Summit, MO. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or The Forsaken Children.
