William J. “Happy” Martin, 87, of Parkville, MO passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017, at the North Kansas City Hospital. He was born on July 11, 1930 in Platte County, MO to William B. and Georgia (McIntyre) Martin.
Happy spent the majority of his working career as a heavy equipment operator for Bill Fickle and later K & S Construction. Happy retired in 1989, He was a member of Local #101. Happy was a hard worker and good man. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served during the Korean Conflict. During his free time, he enjoyed farming, gardening and spending time with his family.
He married Martha B. Bonsall on November 17, 1957 in St. Joseph, MO. She preceded him in death on April 3, 2014. Survivors include two children; Brian Martin and wife, Charlotte of Camden Pointe, MO and Tammy White and husband, Dale of Platte City, MO; two sisters, Etta Dyche of Garden City, MO and Helen Taylor of Parkville, MO; six grandchildren: Jessica, C.C., William, Jr., K.D. and Georgia; and eight great grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating Happy’s life will be held 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at the Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville. The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m., prior to the service. Memorial contributions are suggested to Harvesters Food Bank.
