David Johnson, 61, a resident of Mission, KS passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017 with his loving family by his side. David was born September 9, 1955 to Donald G. and Ann (Ralston) Johnson in Kansas City, MO.
At the age of 17 David joined the United States Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam Era. He returned home where he starting working as an Over the Road Truck Driver. This is how he met his best friend, Gale Swenson and was later united in marriage on October 28, 1994 in Miami, OK.
David will be remembered for his quick wit, practical jokes and knowledge of trivia. He had a fondness for watching nostalgic T.V. shows and movies. David had a large collection of VHS movies, especially old Westerns. He enjoyed listening to all types of music; occasionally you would have an opportunity to watch David start dancing and singing along with the song. He also had a passion of cooking and grilling for family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father. Survived by his wife, Gale Johnson; a daughter, Sarah Johnson of Olathe, KS; 2 grandchildren: Braden and Jace; mother, Ann Johnson of Kansas City, MO; a sister, Cindy Hopkins of Richmond, MO; two nephews: Brian (Chrystal) Johnson, and Derek (Mellissa) Hopkins; two great nieces; Zoe and Kaylee.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m., Monday, June 5, 2017 at Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville, MO. A Celebration of David’s life will immediately follow at 7:00 p.m. at the chapel. Committal Service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road Leavenworth, KS.
