Sherry Johnson, 69, a Northland resident of Kansas City, MO passed away on Mother’s Day Sunday, May 14, 2017 after a courageous battle against breast cancer at her home surrounded by her loving family. Sherry was born May 24, 1947 to Arthur William and Ethel Dorothy (Sass) Otto in Toledo, OH.
Sherry married William W. Johnson, II on June 11, 1966 in San Diego, CA where he was currently stationed with the U.S. Navy.
She was BIG on playing cards; and didn’t like to lose. Sherry collected spoons and Santas, her inventory was in excess of 300+; she loved listening to Elvis Presley and will forever be remembered for her famous chocolate chip cookies.
She was preceded in death by both parents and her Aunt Joanne D. Smith. Survived by her husband of 50 years, William Johnson; three children: Tammy Wood (Jerry) of Parkville, MO; Brian Johnson (Amanda) of Liberty, MO; Kevin Johnson (Mary) of Kansas City (North), MO; seven grandchildren: Will Wood of Chicago, IL; Andy Bowman (Carrie) of Kansas City, MO (North);Matt Bowman (Kevin) of Chicago, IL; Shelby Bowman (Joven Duong) of Kansas City, MO; Alex Johnson of Kansas City, MO; Nick Johnson of Kansas City, MO and Zachary Johnson of Liberty, MO.
A Memorial Service celebrating Sherry’s life will be held 6:00 p.m., Thursday, May 18, 2017 at Antioch Bible Baptist Church, 800 N.E. 72nd Street Kansas City, MO 64118. Pastor Marcus Marckey will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital, Nephrology Department.
