Robert “Bob” Frank Steckmest, 59, a Northland resident of Kansas City, MO went to the loving arms of Jesus on August 31, 2016 at the St. Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza. He was born October 16, 1956 in Marshalltown, IA to Frank and Alberta (Tigges) Steckmest. They preceded him in death.
The family moved to Lincoln, NE in 1962, where he graduated from high school and
attended the University of Nebraska. Once focusing on photography he attended Hawkeye Tech in Iowa. Bob has worked behind the camera his whole career, most recently with UMKC Medical School.
Bob loved The Beatles, Husker football, Royals, Chiefs, playing the saxophone and most importantly, spending time with his family. He was a member of the Platte Woods United Methodist Church, where he played in the church band. He was also a member of the Parkville Symphonic Band and enjoyed attending the Parkville Dog Run with his golden retriever, Scotty.
His favorite camera subjects and those left to mourn him are his wife of 10 years, Susan L. (Rigdon) Steckmest; a daughter, Jessica Rose Steckmest; two step-daughters, Megan “Joey” Elizabeth Bratt; and Morgan Nicole Bratt; and a sister, Chris (Bill) Stephens; nephews, Patrick (Rachel) Brown and Darin (Kristin) Stephens; and great nieces, Lauren, Lydia, Kennedy, Sheridan and Westyn.
A funeral service celebrating Bob’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at the Platte Woods United Methodist Church with Rev. Jake Schneider officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Monday, September 5, at the Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville.
