Dulcie Thomasene “Tommie” Rains, 94, of Blue Springs, MO passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016. She was born to W. Thomas and Dulcie (Boone) Hardy on October 18, 1921 in Wilsonville, NE.
Tommie received her Registered Nursing degree from the Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was united in marriage to Fred E. Rains on May 29, 1943 in Maplewood, MO. Tommie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs. She was a faithful pastor’s wife, homemaker and loved taking care of her children. Tommie enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, painting china and fly fishing at Bennett Springs, MO.
Survivors include daughters, Fredalyn Gentry (Thomas) of Sibley, MO, Faith Pharr of Lake Tapawingo, MO; son, Mark Rains (Mina) of Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren, Dr. Jamie Burkhart (Richard) of Windsor, MO, Dr. Jim Simmons (Gema) of Omaha, NE, John Simmons (Tonya) of Holden, MO, Holly Sprink (Matt) of Stanmore, England, Brett Rains (Anna) of Grain Valley, MO, Carrie Hubbard (Justin) of Gardener, KS, Jonathan Pharr (Annah) of Columbia, MO; 17 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild . She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Rains; parents W. Thomas and Dulcie Hardy; brother, John Hardy; son-in-law, Troy Pharr.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m., on Friday, April 29, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs, 4500 Little Blue Parkway, Independence, MO. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the church. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery, in Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Impact Ministries of First Baptist Church of Blue Springs and may be left in care of Meyers Funeral Chapel of Blue Springs.
