Terry L. Johnson, 57, a Northland resident in Kansas City, MO, formerly of Omaha, NE passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014 at his home. He was born August 3, 1956 in Omaha, NE to Earl D. and Barbara L. (Nearness) Johnson. Terry had lived in Kansas City since 1988.
He was retired from the United States Department of Transportation-Federal Aviation Division, where he was employed for 34 years. Terry was a veteran of the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on December 26, 1981. During his time in the service, he was stationed in San Diego, CA and served on the USS Horne. Terry had a passion for his family and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren grow up. He was a very hard worker and enjoyed his free time as well. He was an avid Husker and Chiefs fan, had a great sense of humor and loved to sing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Brian A. Johnson. He married Dixie R. Scherzer on January 14, 2006 in Las Vegas, NV. She survives of the couple’s home in Kansas City. Additional survivors include a son, Jeremy Johnson of Gladstone, MO; two daughters, Brynn Donaldson of Liberty, MO and Megan Scherzer of the home; six siblings; and three grandchildren, Taylor Ava Donaldson, Destin Michael Johnson and Lucas Brian Johnson.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Terry’s life from 10-11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Meyers Northland Chapel in Parkville, where military honors will be presented at 11:00 a.m. under the auspices of the Unites States Navy Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital – Department of Philanthropy, 2401 Gillham Road Kansas City, MO 64108.
