Robert George “Yogi” Barth, 89, Kansas City, MO, passed away Monday, December 30, 2013, at Ashton Court Care and Rehabilitation Center in Liberty. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1400 W. Sheley Road, Independence, Missouri.
In 1950, he married Nadine Joy (Johnson) Barth. She passed away in 2005. He was born October 6, 1924, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Alice (Durnil) and Julius Barth and spent his childhood in Healy, Kansas. His sister, Nona, died as a child. He graduated from East High School in Kansas City, Missouri. During World War II, he served in the 79th Division, M Company, 315 Infantry in France. After returning to the states, he earned a degree in architectural engineering from the University of Kansas. He had a forty-year career as a structural engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City office. Following his retirement, he worked for ten years at the Joe Herndon Vocational-Technical School with the Raytown School District. He also worked as an usher at Kauffman Stadium for his favorite baseball team, the Kansas City Royals.
He is survived by his daughter Karen Davis and husband Roger, Claycomo, Missouri; his daughter Kathy Barnicle and husband Sam, Olathe, Kansas; his daughter Kim Edwards and husband Ike, Brumley, Missouri; his daughter Kelly Barth and partner Lisa Grossman, Lawrence, Kansas; and by ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two on the way. Memorial gifts can be given in his name to Trinity Presbyterian Church of Independence, Missouri.
